Why is it so hard for some people in this fandom to grasp that if Vriska’s death is “Just”, then Terezi was justified in killing her? And that her doing so isn’t meant to be some sort of huge brutal and sinister failing in her characterization? It’s not even like she did it in cold blood- the last month of updates have pretty much been a big to-do about how Terezi was conflicted over this decision however, in the end, it was ultimately the necessary action (at least from her non-omnipotent POV). Terezi is obviously shaken by what she’s done and Hussie noted in his Formspring answer re: the alternate timeline sequence that the purpose of it was to give Terezi the COURAGE to kill Vriska. You don’t refer to your character’s actions as requiring courage if they are meant to be nasty, underhanded or reprehensible. Terezi is pretty flawed and often has a problem of her near preternaturally Good Judgement ironically clouding her, uh, good judgement but you know. I think the point is she was right about this one.
I’m pretty broken up about Vriska’s death too but come on, a Just Death was always a likely outcome for her. Vriska was a tragedy of good intentions paving the road to hell. That Hussie managed to make her so sympathetic despite not quite redeeming her is a mark of excellent storytelling. It’s not exactly Terezi’s fault that Vriska was going about it the wrong way. Both the Scourge Sisters are complicated and ambiguous girls, but one doesn’t need to be despicable in order for the other to be likeable. The thing is, Terezi killed Vriska for all the right reasons. That it hurts anyways means that it has pathos.
Not necessarily directed at anyone in particular, I’ve just seen a lot of whiplash Terezi hatred and broad assumptions that her murder of Vriska was meant to be some big villainous fall from grace and I just. Uh?????? I won’t make a habit of posts like this, but I have a Lot Of Emotions About Those Scourge Sisters and in a fandom that is always so ready to squee over Gamzee mutilating people or defend Eridan’s actions, it always shocks me to see people turn on a dime against the girls. : /
